Call for Industrial Design Students

📐✏️
Join us for your semester project
Ikego is a participatory circular design research lab 🔬 In an open globally distributed process, we invent a free*as in freedom modular building system for really anything. Like “LEGO meets IKEA.“
And we’d like your contribution.
⚙️ 🌱
Use your semester project in industrial design to experiment with the open circular Ikego system. Use multipurpose parts to solve your task and invent new ones for others to build upon. And in the end, create & publish a new Ikego Set, as part of your portfolio, you’ll be an Ikego Designer.🚀
Build the collaborative circular future of design.

Ikego collaboratively invents a system of super universal parts. Think LEGO bricks…

…but for the real world! We build a system that allows you to create infinite things from only a couple of parts.

♾️ objects from few parts

Why? Because we believe this is the path to a sustainable circular future of design ♻️

We are currently exploring the idea of making parts universally compatible by basing them on a shared grid – like Erector sets ↑.

If you have questions about how a designer can use this system and what it means for them, read our call for designers.

Yes. Carry out your given project topic as you normally would, and try to use multipurpose parts in the process.

It’s clear: not every topic necessarily fits Ikego well. But many do! And eventually … all?

Incorporate multipurpose parts: You can either use parts from our catalog (and invent new use cases for them) or you can create new parts and refine them until they are multipurpose parts – until they can be used for more than one thing.

It’s a fantastic way to build knowledge and skills in modularity, circularity, and collaboration. And in the process, you’ll be making an open, sustainable system stronger on its path toward real impact.

Start with this goal. And follow your discoveries and insights, solve problems, and more. If you happen to stray from the IKEGO path along the way, no problem. Your semester learning experience is what matters most.

Check out our catalogs for early sets and parts. This kind of thing is definitely possible within a semester project.

🌱

early stage

Yes. Absolutely. Get in touch when you start your project (or even before that with any questions). We organize regular group calls where other students who are also trying out Ikego and designers who already have experience with the system come together to help each other.

You will be building an international network for yourself.

Additional support for your project alongside that of your professor, plus an international network.

Experience in circular design.

If you decide to showcase your parts and your solution here in the catalog, you will become an “official Ikego designer.” This means commercial opportunities in the future.

The feeling that your semester research won’t just disappear into a drawer, but has contributed to the invention of a building system for a sustainable future.

And, of course, an interesting entry for your portfolio.

Tell your professor that you are experimenting with the system or thinking about doing so. Get them on board.

Research together.

And if your professor has any reservations or questions, they are more than welcome to get in touch with us. Academia for a sustainable future:
